Kidnappers' gang arrested in Rongjeng by East Garo Hills police

SHILLONG: Personnel of the East Garo Hills police on Tuesday apprehended the kingpin and some of his associates who were allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a businessman recently. The gang members were arrested from the heart of Rongjeng. The police also recovered cash and a motor bike which was used in the committing the crime.

The arrested persons have been handed over to West Khasi Hills police for further investigation. Operation is still on to arrest the other members of this gang, informed the Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Garo Hills.

It may be mentioned that a gang of seven hardcore criminals had kidnapped Rintu Marak -- coal businessman hailing from Jadi in South Garo Hills -- from Rengdim in West Khasi Hills bordering East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills. In this connection, an operation was launched in the districts of West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills and also in East Garo Hills. After a gap of a few days on July 13, the abductors reportedly released the kidnapped person at Dobu on payment of ransom.
