SHILLONG: The Sanshnong Area unit (SAU) of Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has demanded that the Meghalaya Power Distribution Coporation Limited (MePDCL) must pay adequate compensation to a minor boy, who was grievously injured after being electrocuted in South West Khasi Hills district.

AstronomisKharhari, a resident of Pyndenlyngdoh and student of Class-IX in the Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat, was electrocuted on November 23. He is presently undergoing treatment at the Shillong Civil Hospital.

KSU SAU general secretary MansaljuneKharhari said that the union in the past few months had asked the MePDCL to construct fencing around the transformer and to remove the electric wires from area as these wires are likely to pose danger to people's lives, especially from Tynnai to Mawbidong in the area.

"Therefore, we strongly demand the MePDCL to pay adequate compensation to the minor boy and to take necessary action to prevent any repeat of such incidents in the future," he stated.
