SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills president, Ferdynald Kharkamni has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a district court in Nongpoh.

It may be mentioned that the investigating officer of the case, LK Lyngkhoi had made a prayer before the court that the KSU district president is remanded to 14-day judicial custody so as to enable him to complete the investigation of the case.

The investigating officer also prayed that the accused should not be released on bail during the initial stage of the investigation as his associates are yet to be arrested.

“Considering the nature of offense alleged against the accused person and grounds put forth by the investigating officer, this court is of the view that opportunity is given to the investigation officer to investigate the case,” the court said.

It may be mentioned that Kharkamni was wanted by the police after he “assaulted an officer” in charge and a police constable at Umiam Police Station on October 15. He was arrested on November 18 from Nongpoh.
