SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Thursday staged a rally to stand in solidarity with the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) protesting the recent violence within the varsity campus.
The demonstration was held at Motphran and Khyndai Lad (Police Bazar). Members of the students' body put up black flags at various locations in the two areas.
On January 8 also, JNU alumni in Meghalaya had staged a protest. The demonstration was held at the Fire Brigade ground where some prominent artistes and filmmakers also took part.
The JNU alumni said, “What is seen is that the government is trying to suppress the voices of this country. The youths of this country are aware of the things which are going on in this country. What we want is that our voices should be heard and our opinions should be respected.”
Across the country, several protests have been carried out slamming the BJP-led Government for the attacks taking place in universities. Delhi Police was also slammed for not taking any action against those masked goons who had entered JNU campus attacking teachers and students.
