KSU units find many non-tribal workers working without papers at Mawprem & Malki

SHILLONG: Members of the Mawprem Circle of Khasi Student Union (KSU) conducted a surprise checking of ‘Work Permit’ from non-tribal labourers working in and around Mawprem area.

The checking was conducted at Lama Villa and in areas near the KHADC office, in which members of the KSU were able to identify around 40 non-tribal labourers working in the area without proper documents or ‘Work Permit’.

The checking was led by Sam Shylla, the general secretary KSU Mawprem Circle.

The KSU leader expressed his surprise to have found so many non-tribal labourers without any work permit working in the area which is also very close to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

He also said that after the release of the NRC in Assam, the KSU Mawprem Circle will intensify their checking not just the ‘Work Permit’ but also other documents as well so that those people who was rejected in the NRC will not be able to take shelter in and around the Mawprem area.

In a similar checking, KSU members of the Malki Circle found that there are around 30 non-tribal labourers without any documents or ‘Work Permit’ working at various places across Malki locality.
