WILLIAMNAGAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Garo Hills, organized a daylong 'Legal Awareness Programme' at Sawilgre Village across the Simsang River under Samanda Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Block on February 10. The meeting saw the participation of a large number of villagers, Nokmas and Sardars from the villages under the Block, as well as officials from the line departments.
During the programme, East Garo Hills District & Sessions Judge and DLSA Chairperson M. Skhemlon spoke about the 'Legal Services Authority'. He also informed the gathering about the 'Legal Aid Clinic' opened in the office premises of BDO (Block Development Officer) in Samanda Block, where a panel lawyer and para-legal volunteers are available. He urged the people of the region to avail the free services of legal counsel and the opportunities being provided in the Clinic.
Dwelling on 'Police Outreach', the resource person from the Police department, Williamnagar Deputy Superintendent of Police A Ch Momin explained how to write and file 'First Information Report' (FIR), and various other subjects related to the topic.
Samanda BDO Albert G Momin highlighted the various Central and State schemes presently being implemented in the Block. The resource person from the 'District Child Protection' unit deliberated on the POCSO ( Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act-2012, stated a release.
