SHILLONG: The general secretary, NPP North East Coordination Committee, Shillong, DS Malai has appraised the Minister in-charge Power, James K Sangma on the frequent power cuts at the Nongpoh area in Ri-Bhoi district. Malai has expressed concern at the frequent disruption of power supply in Nongpoh town which has affected the daily economic activities of the general public. In this connection, Minister Sangma assured that the issue of frequent power cuts at the Nongpoh area will be look into by the department.
“The frequent power disruptions have badly affected daily life, economic activities, students and offices which mainly depend on electricity,” Malai said.
He pointed that the region is experiencing unscheduled and unannounced power cuts for hours and days which violates the rights of the consumers.
“We had approached the MeECL office Nongpoh division, it has quick answers to questions but no solution,” he said.
He also said that the electricity bills issued are unclear, irregular and without any proper meter reading.
“We have been receiving complaints time and again regarding the irregular and unexpected increase in billing of single point connection and in both domestic and commercial, especially after the MePDCL has given the job of bills-collection to a contractor,” he pointed out.
He also urged the Minister to take up the matter immediately so that regular and uninterrupted power supply be available in Nongpoh.
