Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya volunteers help needy people in Ri-Bhoi

GUWAHATI: The staff of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) Meghalaya along with volunteers provided food packets to daily wage earners, homeless people and other needy people affected by the nationwide lockdown in North East India in the varsity campus on Sunday morning. The distribution was carried out following the government guidelines, stated a release issued by the Mahatma Gandhi University Chancellor Dr. Rajan Chopra.

The varsity volunteers have been reaching out to such needy people of the society particularly in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya affected during the earlier days of lockdown as well. The volunteers have been taking necessary hygiene precautions by wearing face masks and using hand sanitizers during food distribution. Social distancing was strictly followed and hands sansitized.

Meanwhile, the University is using its Learning Management System (LMS) to provide online classes. Its students and teachers have been provided logins to access the course books, ebooks, virtual classes, ppts, online assignments, scorms, self assignment tests and other learning materials.

The regular online classes are being conducted by the teachers with the help of different digital media to complete the syllabus. Though the students are from the remote/tribal area and have very poor Internet connectivity, the university has managed to provide quality education as per the UGC and MHRD norms and following the daily time table of the classes. Authorities concerned of the university are reviewing the daily ongoing classes, the release added.
