SHILLONG: The national president of the NPP (National People' Party) and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the just concluded by-elections reflect the people's mandate will carry over to the general election in 2023.

The Chief Minister made the statement at a felicitation programme for its two victorious candidates from Mawryngkneng and Rajabala constituencies at the NPP headquarters office here.

It may be mentioned that the newly elected party MLAs include Pyniaid Sing Syiem from Mawryngkneng and Abdus Saleh from Rajabala. Mawphlang candidate Lamphrang Blah who didn't manage to win was also present at the programme.

"We (NPP) never achieved victory during MLA election in both Rajabala and Mawryngkneng constituencies as these are two are Congress strongholds, but with good governance of the NPP, the people have reposed their faith in our party," Sangma said.

He added that in the previous elections, the NPP bagged either the third or the fourth positions.
