SHILLONG: As the lockdown imposed by the Central Government will continue and the curfew imposed by the State government has yet to be relaxed, daily wage workers are the ones who has been hit hard by this crisis due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
In relation to this, the MDC of Mawlai constituency extended a help hand by distributing 4,500 kg of rice to around seven local village dorbars under his constituency.
The dorbars or localities which have benefited from the first phase of distribution of rice packets from the MDC of Mawlai includes Madan Mawkhar, Umrynjah, Umphrew, Mawsiatkhnam, Nongkohlew, Umsaw Mawjynrong and Mawtawar.
The distribution of this essential commodity started from Madan Mawkhar and then continued to other dorbars.
The rice bags were delivered by the MDC to each and every village dorbar within the constituency with an objective to reduce inconveniences to the public.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the MDC Teibor Pathaw said, “Many people have been affected by coronavirus not just in our country but around the world, and there are some people who depend on a daily basis work system to avail income but now as there is a lockdown plus a curfew imposed by the government, it’s hard for them to make ends meet.”
