SHILLONG: The Mawlai Town Dorbar has come forward and expressed their opposition towards the decision of the State government to introduce home delivery of liquor from registered wine stores. It may be mentioned that in August 7, 2020 the State Cabinet has agreed to issue license to wine stores owner so as they can carry out home delivery under the Meghalaya Excise Rules. In this regard, the chairman of Mawlai Town Dorbar SD Khongwir said, "We have had extensive conversations and we have learnt that the people of Mawlai are against this move of the government hence we have to go with thr wishes of the people." He informed that Mawlai Town Dorbar has also decided that there should not be a single wine store in the entire area under Mawlai. "Some have tried to use money as bribe to get permission to set up a wine store but we have decided not to allow such shops to be present at Mawlai," he said. When asked, he said, "I have also spoken with the Excise Minister and had asked him to review the decision. The government should work together and we will also work with the government."
