SHILLONG: The local MDC of Mawlai constituency Teibor Pathaw along with the assistance from the Mawlai Volunteer CORP (MVCORP) on Saturday assisted a family whose house has been affected by the incessant rain. The house which belongs to Trusfully Thabah is located at Mawiong, was damaged on July 10 earlier this month as a retaining wall collapsed and fell on their house damaging three rooms. The incident happened at around 8.30 in the morning. However no one was injured in the incident. Despite the rain in the city today, Pathaw along with 60-plus of the members of MVCORP assisted the affected household in removing the derby and boulders.

Speaking to reporters, Pathaw said, “This is my objective even before contesting the election and that is to serve the people of my constituency and what I am doing now is I am fulfilling my promise to the people.”

“This is also one way for the youths to shy away from bad habits like drugs and instead join us and be an active partner in helping the community in time of need,” he said.

Pathaw also informed that there is an intension to create a disaster management cell in the constituency and the MVCORP will fall under this cell.

“The volunteers under the MVCORP should in the near future receive training to deal with such natural calamities and it should be the first response team in the constituency if anything happens,” he said.
