SHILLONG: The MeECL unions called off their indefinite strike on Wednesday after the Chief Managing Director (CMD) of MeECL (Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited) Arunkumar Kembhavie assured the Union here that the salaries will be paid on time. This was informed to the media by the president of the 'Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL (Employees) Associations and Unions' (CCORMAU), PK Shulet. Quoting the management, Shulet said that for the month of October the salaries will be disbursed by Wednesday evening, for November it will be disbursed by next week and salaries of December and subsequent months will be disbursed within the first week of the respective months.

The executive committee members of the CCORMAU has been resorting to the'Pen Down' strike since December 15; and on Wednesday it staged a hunger strike. Shulet further informed that discussions were also held on other issues relating to terminal benefits which will be pursued with the Government, adding that the Corporation will stop all unnecessary loans. The CCORMAU president also informed that the management assured the Union that MeECL will not be privatised. 

Earlier the Union's general meeting had threatened to suspend all maintenance works during office hours from 10 am to 4 pm on December 21. The Union also threatened to go for total shutdown of service and non-cooperation from January 22 in the event of non-disbursement of salaries even till that time.
