SHILLONG: In an admirable display of border security, the Border Security Force (BSF) recently conducted two separate operations on October 10 in Meghalaya, rescuing a total of 70 cattle from the clutches of illegal smugglers. These operations carried out near the Indo-Bangladesh border, reflect the BSF's unwavering commitment to curbing cattle smuggling and ensuring the safety of livestock in the region.
In the first operation, the diligent troops of 181 Battalion collaborated closely with the Meghalaya police near the bordering village of Silbari in South Garo Hills. Their joint effort led to the discovery and seizure of 22 cattle, specifically buffaloes, which had been concealed within a dense jungle area. The swift action taken by the BSF and local law enforcement undoubtedly prevented these animals from falling victim to the illicit cattle trade.
The second operation, equally commendable, was executed by the combined forces of 193 Battalion and 172 Battalion of BSF Meghalaya. This operation saw the interception and seizure of 48 cattle that were destined for smuggling into Bangladesh through the international border located in East Khasi and East Jaintia Hills. By thwarting this illegal operation, the BSF effectively preserved the well-being and safety of these 48 cattle.
Following the successful rescues, the BSF ensured that the seized cattle were handed over to the relevant local police station. This step is crucial in initiating necessary legal actions against the smugglers and ensuring that the rescued cattle receive appropriate care and attention.
The BSF's continuous vigilance along the Indo-Bangladesh border is a testament to their dedication in preventing the unlawful smuggling of cattle and other illicit goods. This ongoing commitment to safeguarding the border and protecting the livelihoods of countless livestock animals underscores the vital role that the BSF plays in maintaining the integrity and security of India's border regions.
The recent operations conducted by the Border Security Force in Meghalaya serve as a powerful example of their unwavering commitment to border security and animal welfare. Through their vigilance and swift actions, the BSF successfully rescued 70 cattle from the clutches of smugglers, underscoring the importance of their role in safeguarding the Indo-Bangladesh border.
