SHILLONG: Meghalaya Cabinet Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday afternoon filed his nomination papers for the post of Assembly Speaker.
Earlier, in the day, Lyngdoh submitted his resignation from the post of Minister to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma to pave way for his candidature for the Speaker’s post.
During the filing of his nomination, Metbah Lyngdoh was accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues and other partners of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).
Meanwhile, from the opposition Congress, Winnerson D Sangma MLA from Salmanpara filed his nomination. Sangma had also contested against former Speaker, Late Dr Donkupar Roy. The nomination papers were filed before Assembly Commissioner and Secretary, Andrew Simons. The withdrawal of candidature will be on Wednesday. Election to the post of Speaker will be held on September 13.
