TURA: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation stone for PA Sangma Medical Skill Hunar Hub under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram of the Ministry of Minority Affairs at Dumindikgre village under Rongram C&RD Block on Saturday.

Chief Adviser to the Chief Minister Thomas A Sangma, Health and Family Welfare Minister James PK Sangma, National Secretary of the NPP Dr Rajiv Jaiswal, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh and others were present at the programme.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister informed that the skill hub was worth Rs. 151.9 crore, the first of its kind in India, would be constructed on the land donated by the Nokia and other clan members of Dumindikgre A King Land. This project comprises a 300-bed multi-speciality hospital, a pharmaceutical college, a paramedical college, a skill development centre, a 100-seat nursing hostel, a 100-seat paramedical hostel, and a 500-bed boys' hostel, a 200-bed girls' hostel and a working women's hostel. The Ministry of Minority Affairs sanctioned the project through the Social Welfare Department. The project would be handed over to the Health Department after completion.

The Chief Minister lauded North Tura MLA Thomas A Sangma for being instrumental in bringing such a project to the region. The Chief Minister also assured to fulfil the agreement between the villagers and the Government of Meghalaya.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare James PK Sangma expressed gratitude to Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, for sanctioning the project. He also said that the hub would be a state-of-the-art medical facility which would cater to medical skill development and health services not only to the state of Meghalaya but the neighbouring states as well, a press release said.
