SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday attended the inaugural function of ‘Shaping Young Minds’ organized by the Guwahati Management Association at NEHU campus, Shillong.

Delivering the inaugural address, the Chief Minister said that the youth of the country are its greatest resource and that it is important to channelise the energy of the youth constructively, adding that programmes such as the one being organised will help the young students to open up and prepare themselves to meet challenges that they would face in the future.

Sharing his experiences of management with the students, the Chief Minister said that one of the biggest challenge is to get different individuals to work as a team. “In today’s world, nobody is the boss. If you start thinking that you are the boss I think you are getting it wrong the first day itself. Always remember to work as a team and how as an individual you can contribute to improve and find solutions”, he said

Stating that theoretical knowledge and practical applications depend on various factors and vary according to situations the Chief Minister stressed on the need to go out in the field and experience things hands on.

“I always tell my colleagues and officers that if one really wants to make a difference in people’s lives, one simply cannot sit in the comfort of our offices, we must go down to the field and get our hands dirty”, he said.

The Chief Minister also informed that his office has initiated ‘Block to Block’ programme with a target to visit and cover 46 blocks in the State within two years and said that it will enable the government to assess the ground realities and issues being faced at the grassroots level to enable it to take corrective measures and create better policies.

Highlighting entrepreneurship as an important avenue for employment generation the Chief Minister said that the government has initiated various programs to promote it in the State.

The 50th year anniversary souvenir of the Guwahati Management Association was also released by the Chief Minister at the event.
