SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the Science Stream building of the Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School at Jongksha in the East Khasi Hills.
Sangma also inaugurated the Golden Jubilee celebration of the school.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also donated Rs 25 lakh for the 'Atal Tinkering Lab' of the school.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said that there are no schools in around 20 sq km radius in the area which are offering the Science stream and with Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School offering this subject, children of the area will finally have the opportunity to take up this stream.
The Chief Minister also said that he will examine the demand of Cabinet Minister and Mawkynrew MLA, Banteidor Lyngdoh, to set up a community college in the constituency.
He also urged the students to be disciplined in life.
Cabinet Minister Lyngdoh, who was also present on the occasion, informed that he will donate Rs 40 lakh to the school.
He said that a community college was needed in his area since not having one puts extra burden on the children who have to come to Shillong for higher studies.
Lyngdoh also praised the Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School for providing quality education for children of the area for the past 50 years.
Meanwhile, Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and local MDC, Martle Mukhim said that when he passed his matriculation in 1972 he had to come to Shillong to study Science.
