SHILLONG: On June 26, U Soso Tham Auditorium hosted the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which was organised by Meghalaya Police in association with the Social Welfare Department. Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister who graced the event as the chief guest, stated in his speech that the administration is working actively to ensure that Meghalaya is a drug-free state.

Additionally, CM Sangma unveiled the "Drug Free Meghalaya App," created by the Meghalaya government to warn people about the negative effects of drugs and to report any information to the Meghalaya Police concerning drug shipments or smuggling. Also gave the ANTF team the drug detection kits.

Taking on twitter, CM Conrad Sangma also announced that, “Today, on the occasion of the #InternationalDayAgainstDrugAbuse, we launched the Drug Reduction, Elimination & Action Mission (DREAM), a coordinated strategy to eliminate the issues of substance abuse towards a Drug Free Meghalaya. We are allocating ₹50 Crore for the next 5 years for this mission.

DREAM will focus on social mobilisation for concerted action, creation of an enabling support system for recovery & rehabilitation of users & a drug regulation procedure to strengthen the enforcement strategy

The government t of Meghalaya felicitated the people, groups, and community members who each worked independently to address the state's drug trafficking problem. Congratulated the ANTF team for their motivational efforts in support of their mission to create a drug-free Meghalaya. CM in his speech salute them for their beneficial contributions to our State.

The state government has formed the Advisory Board for the implementation of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS), 1988, which seeks to book drug traffickers for a period of three months and has approved and notified the draught policy under the Drug Reduction Elimination and Action Mission (DREAM) to ensure a drug-free Meghalaya.
