SHILLONG: On Tuesday, Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad Sangma requested the assistance of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on matters that are negatively affecting the student community, such as the requirement to establish Common University Entrance Test (CUET) centres in the state's 12 districts.

The CM also asked the Union Education Minister to instruct the Ministry of Education and National Testing Agency (NTA) to hold a special CUET exam for Meghalaya students who missed the original exam because CUET testing locations were assigned outside the State. Taking on twitter, CM Conrad Sangma informed that, “Have requested Union Education Minister @dpradhanbjp ji to issue necessary directions to the Ministry of Education and NTA to conduct a special CUET examination for those students of Meghalaya who have missed the said examination due to allotment of CUET examination centres outside the State.

We have requested GoI to consider to set up CUET centres in all 12 (twelve) Districts of Meghalaya in the institutions which possess adequate infrastructure and testing facilities for CUET examination.”

The Meghalaya Government has suggested opening CUET facilities in well-known areas like Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Nongstoin, and Williamnagar in order to swiftly address this issue. These centres will efficiently serve the neighbouring districts as well. Conrad Sangma, the state's chief executive, also brought up during the meeting the ongoing difficulties that the state's teacher training institutions have in uploading documents as needed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). He drew attention to the persistent mistakes and bugs in the NCTE website that interfere with the institutions' ability to operate effectively.

Additionally, CM Conrad Sangma recognized the establishment of the North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE) in Meghalaya by the Government of India. He did draw attention to the B.Ed courses' small intake capacity, which serves the entire Northeast region and is only 50 students.
