Meghalaya CM Orders Probe on Killing Of HNLC Leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew

The group has been demanding an independent investigation leading to the death of ex-HNLC leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew.

According to reports, the Meghalaya Government under sheer pressure has declared a magisterial probe in the killing of ex-HNLC leader Cherishterfield.

Meanwhile, sources added that the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) had already put up banners at Motphran in Shillong, demanding an independent probe into the 'so-called' assassination of the former HNLC leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday assured that a magisterial inquiry into the so-called assassination of the Youth leader would be made in an impartial manner so that the truth floats around crushing all controversies.

Addressing a press conference, CM Sangma said that, "Magisterial enquiry will be set up by the state government. Following this, the National Human Rights Commission shall intervene in the matter."

"There is a huge number of credible and tangible evidence from multiple agencies against the former SHNLC leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew over his alleged involvement in the recent IED blast in Shillong city," CM Sangma added.

Reiterating into the matter, CM Sangma reiterated, "Based on such credible information from multiple agencies that another attempt was going to make in Shillong, a raid was conducted jointly by the East Jaintia Hills police and East Khasi Hills police at house of surrendered HNLC leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew in the wee hours on Friday at Kynton Massar in Mawlai. I urge all citizens to maintain peace."

HNLC also demanded the resignation of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui in regards to the killing of their leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew, that occurred on August 13.
