SHILLONG: Traffic accidents are not no uncommon in the region and the convoy of the chief minister of Meghalaya became the victim of one such incident recently. Although no one was injured in the incident, two vehicles received partial damages.

The incident took place on Saturday when the chief minister was visiting Dawki in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya with his convoy. A pick-up truck reportedly collided with one of the vehicles of the chief minister’s convoy during this visit. The incident took place in the Upper Shillong locality near the capital city.

Both the pilot car of the chief minister’s convoy and the pick-up truck were partially damaged in the incident. Although no reports of any injuries were received, the chief minister had to postpone the official event in which he was expected to take part in Dawko near the international border between India and Bangladesh.

Previously, at least 25 people were injured including one person who sustained severe injuries following a head-on collision between two passenger vehicles in Morigaon district of Assam. The incident took place in the Jaluguti area of the central Assam district after a passenger vehicle collided with another passenger vehicle that was coming from the opposite direction. Following the incident, locals rescued the injured persons and admitted them to Morigaon Civil Hospital. It was mentioned that both vehicles were at a high speed when the incident took place, thus increasing the impact of the incident.

Uttam Das, a doctor at Morigaon Civil Hospital, said that 25 injured people have been admitted to the government-run hospital. “Out of the injured persons, one person has been referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for his severe injuries. No one has died in the incident,” Dr Uttam Das said regarding the accident.
