SHILLONG: Meghalaya registered 42 new COVID-19 cases and 156 number of recoveries during the last 24 hours. While the total recovered cases now stands at 1,716, the toll remains at 17, informed State Health Minister AL Hek. The State's active cases now stands at 1,343. The districtwise breakup of the active corona cases are: East Khasi Hills: 920; West Garo Hills: 173; Ri-Bhoi: 117; East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills: 30 each; East Garo Hills: 25; South Garo Hills: 16; North Garo Hills: 13; West Jaintia Hills: 11; South West Garo Hills: 7; and South West Khasi Hills: one.

The districtwise breakup of cases in the "others" category are: East Khasi Hills: 11 high-risk contacts, two health workers at Bethany Hospital and seven influenza-like illnesses; South West Garo Hills: two truck drivers and one high risk contact; and West Garo Hills: one returnee, and seven detected after random testing at Rongram market and three high-risk contacts. Among the 156 recoveries registered in the State on Tuesday are 73 from East Garo Hills; 53 from East Khasi Hills; 26 from West Garo Hills; three from Ri-Bhoi; and one from West Jaintia Hills. Of the 1,02,487 samples sent for testing till date, while 98,345 tested negative, reports of 1,066 are awaited. The number of people who have entered the State till date are 33,880.
