SHILLONG: Meghalaya registered four more deaths during the last 24 hours taking the State's toll tally to 36 on Saturday. While three deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills, one is from West Garo Hills district. The number of COVID cases also continued to surge with 112 cases reported. This is the third day that 100 odd cases have been reported in the past three days. There are presently 2,038 active cases. Meanwhile, 2,483 COVID-infected patients have recovered till date.

As the number is multiplying, stress is laid on how individuals can help in containing the virus. "Community transmission is one reason for the sudden surge of the COVID cases," admitted the Director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Aman War. He has urged the public to strictly follow the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs).

The actual ground study shows that while many follow these SOPs, there are many others who are least bothered about such guidelines. This is despite the combating mode initiated by the government and other stakeholders. Hence, the COVID-19 cases in Meghalya are continuing to rise across the State.
