SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Wednesday registered two more COVID-19 deaths taking the toll to 42. The State also recorded 170 new cases; and 153 new recoveries on Wednesday, taking the number of recoveries to 2,859.

Director of Health Services, Dr. Aman War informed that Ryena Begum (68) of Mahendraganj, South West Garo Hills, died on September 22 at around 10:50 am at Ampati Civil hospital.

On Wednesday Deepak Dutta 75 years of Circuit House Kenche's Trace died at around 2:40 am at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

Of the 170 new cases registered on Wednesday, East Khasi Hills bore the brunt of the virus with 117 (armed and paramilitary forces one, others 116) followed by Ri-Bhoi 37, North Garo Hills and West Garo Hills (five each); East Jainta Hills and West Jaintia Hills (three each). The total active cases in the State are 2,060.

East Khasi Hills recorded 113 new recoveries followed by Ri-Bhoi and West Garo Hills (17 each), South West Garo Hills (three), East Jaintia Hills (two), and South Garo Hills (one).

Dr. War also informed that of the 1,36,932 samples sent for testing till date, 1,31,971 samples tested negative. The number of people who have entered Meghalaya till Wednesday afternoon are 39,808.
