SHILLONG: Meghalaya in the last two days recorded six deaths due to COVID-19 taking the total casaulty due to the infection to 48. On Tuesday, Meghalaya recorded 101 new cases and 72 recoveries, taking the total number of active cases to 1,476 and the total recovered cases to 3,940, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War.

Giving details of the casualties, he informed that on September 27, the State recorded four deaths related to COVID-19 — Rishikeshi Subba (74) of Upper Mawprem who expired at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Firstborn Marbaniang (60) of Langkyrding, Sanjay Singh Muktam (36) of Baridua, Ri-Bhoi district and Knesman Nongsiej — all at Civil Hospital Shillong.

On September 28, the State recorded two deaths — Phomti Phawa (51) at Civil Hospital Shillong and Dil Bahadur Thapa (55) of Lad Rymbai in East Jaintia Hills district at NEIGRIHMS.

Of the 101 new cases registered on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills recorded 54 (armed/paramilitary force: five; civilians: 49); West Garo Hills: 37 (armed/paramilitary force: 12; civilians: 25); West Jaintia Hills: four; Ri-Bhoi and South West Garo Hills: two each; East Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills: one each.

The Director of Health Services also informed that of the 72 new recovered cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 54 (armed/paramilitary forces: two; civilians: 52); West Garo Hills: nine (all from the armed/paramilitary forces); East Jaintia Hills: four; East Garo Hills: three; and Ri-Bhoi: two. The number of samples sent for testing till date are 1,48,298; of which 1,42,835 tested negative. A total of 42,170 people have entered Meghalaya till date.
