Meghalaya Democratic Alliance to Carry Forward Dr. Roy’s Dreams: Bindo M Lanong

SHILLONG: Senior regional party leader and United Democratic Party (UDP) working president, Bindo M Lanong on Monday said that his party will go ahead and fulfill the aspiration of their leader Dr. Donkupar Roy.

Speaking to media persons after the condolence meeting of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition, Bindo M Lanong said, “The UDP, a partner in the MDA government, will go ahead in his memory, in his wish, in his commitment, that regional government and regionalism should continue and this government has to go on with more strength and dedication for the good of the State and the people.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that during the MDA meeting, the partners really felt and realized that they have a mission in front of them.

“It is leaders like Dr. Donkupar Roy who has really motivated us in one way and reinforced our desire to ensure that we complete all those visions,” the Chief Minister added.

Meanwhile, Minister in the MDA cabinet and UDP legislator, Metbah Lyngdoh said that the demise of Dr. Roy is a huge loss not only for the party but the State as a whole.

The Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), the pre-poll alliance of the UDP and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) also condoled the death of the Speaker of Meghalaya Assembly. According to RDA chairman Renikton Tongkhar, in his death, the leaders should not lose hope but follow the footsteps of Dr. Roy.

“As a regional leader, his vision was to unify the regional forces of the State and the emergence of the RDA is a way forward,” Tongkhar said.
