Meghalaya: East Garo Hills Police Rescues Abducted Vegetable Vendor From Assam
GUWAHATI: A vegetable vendor hailing from the state of Assam was abducted by a team of kidnappers but he was safely brought back from the clutches of the kidnappers by the Meghalaya police.
The kidnapping incident took place on Wednesday 23 March in the Nongchram village area which is in Dambo Rongjeng Tehsil of East Garo Hills district, Meghalaya.
The group of kidnappers succeeded in their motive when the vegetable vendor was taking rest in the residence of Mahabel Marak and fell asleep.
The vegetable vendor has been identified as Hanif Ali of 57 years old hailing from the Krishnai town located in the Golaghat district of Assam.
However, on Saturday 26 March the special operations unit of the East Garo Hills district has successfully rescued the abducted man from a dense jungle area of Meghalaya.
As informed by the officials, a complaint was registered on Wednesday evening at the Rongjeng police station after some unknown people took away Ali on that day.
Following the complaint and after receiving information from certain inputs, the East Garo Hills SP (Superintendent of Police) had launched a search operation to find the old man and nab the kidnappers.
The operation team led by Dysp Anthony Ch Momin act on the inputs and entered the forest area of Dimit Chikamagre.
The team successfully busted the hideout the old man was kept and then they rescued him.
The man selling vegetables on the streets of Meghalaya was held in the dense forest area of Dimit Chikamagre as informed by officials.
However, the team failed to arrest the kidnappers as they succeeded in escaping by taking advantage of the huge forest area.
Meanwhile, the operation is still going on to find out the culprits behind the kidnapping case and arrest them said the officials on Saturday.
