Meghalaya Elections: Bharatiya Janata Party Hits Back at Congress

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party took a jibe at the Congress party ahead of the elections in the state of Meghalaya on Sunday. They called out the party for making “hollow promises” to the public of Meghalaya.

The National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party Tarun Chaugh mentioned that the Congress party considers the state of Meghalaya as a low-priority state while adding that the party had failed to address the problems of the people of the state. He also said that the campaign is nothing but a mockery of the people of Meghalaya.

“The Congress has always treated the North East in a step motherly fashion. It was only after the election of the PM Narendra Modi led BJP government that the Centre started focusing on this region and laying special emphasis on its development. The result of PM Modi’s efforts are for all to see,” mentioned Tarun Chaugh.

He mentioned the promises made by the Congress party are nothing but goals already fulfilled by the state with support from the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the centre. Tarun Chaugh also mentioned that the gifts that the Congress government will give the state are what the state does not want, including backwardness and unemployment.

“The BJP has proven its credentials through the delivery of promises at the Centre and in various states and now it was time for Meghalaya to experience the much-deserved growth and prosperity under a BJP led government,” added BJP member A.L. Hek .

“This is an indication that the Congress also plans to only rename Central Government schemes (in the name of either Rajiv Gandhi or someone else from their owner’s family) and do nothing as a state government. Tarun Chugh appealed to the people of Meghalaya to see through the Congress’s designs. The Congress leaders consider themselves entitled and elite, and they come down from their ivory towers to meet the people only once in 5 years,” the BJP National General Secretary added.

Meghalaya goes to the election on February 27 for the 60-seat state assembly.
