SHILLONG: The Meghalaya EMRI Workers' Association on Thursday reiterated that the State government should take over the emergency health response delivery team from GVK after the expiry of the contract in March this year.

Known as the '108 team',these Health workers told newsmen here on Thursday that it is high time that the State government responded to our request to make our jobs permanent so that we can continue to serve the people.

"If the government cannot absorb us in the Health department, then it must create a society that will run the service,"stated the president of the EMRI Workers' Association, Microlina Syiemlieh. Pointing out the difficulties being faced by the staff, she blamed it on "the insensitivity of the management". Exhorting the government to take serious note on this issue, the leaders of the association stated that they have even sent letters to the State Health Minister and also all the 60 MLAs.

No positive step has been taken till date, said one of the leaders, even as he narrated the torrid times faced by the EMRI workers while extending their services during the COVID crisis. "We didn't go home for months... we served faithfully as frontline warriors ", he pointed out.
