Meghalaya Fisheries Minister Comingone Ymbon Visits Ri-Bhoi District

Shillong: Meghalaya Fisheries Minister Comingone Ymbon visited Ri-Bhoi district on August 7 and had a review meeting with the Fisheries Department at DRDA Conference Hall, Nongpoh.

During the review meeting, the minister said that the motive of the review meeting was that the State through its initiatives aimed to produce more and more fishes so as to enable to promote and uplift the economy of the people of the State.

He directed the officials of the fisheries department of the district to submit the report related with the status of the schemes implemented for the benefit of the fish farmers.

Ymbon also urged the officials to take up the schemes seriously and the schemes like construction of fish ponds should be done after properly screening of its feasibility to free government funds from wastage.

The State Fisheries Minister further, said that in order to promote the development of fish farming in the state, setting up of eco hatcheries at different locations is very necessary.

Comingone Ymbon also said that as Ri - Bhoi District has a good climate, he suggested to have number of Eco-hatcheries with high numbers of fish fingerling seeds at different block levels so as to enable to cater the requirement of fish seeds in the district and the state as well.

Lastly, He said, that fish farming has become a good source of livelihood and income of the people in rural areas hence, he directed the officials of the fisheries department to stay in touch with the farmers and also imparting them and encourage them through awareness programmes about various governmental projects.

Comingone Ymbon also sought the cooperation of other line departments for implementation of various government schemes for the people, when the income of people rises, the state goes up, he concluded.
