SHILLONG: Former finance minister of Meghalaya, AH Scott Lyngdoh, passed away here on Tuesday due to old age. He was 93 years old when he took his last breath.
Bah Scott passed away on 7th of March, Tuesday, at an old age according to his family members.
A close family member informed that his funeral will take place at the Jaiaw Presbyterian cemetery in Weiking tomorrow. AH Scott was living with his wife and four kids. Scott was a former official who had worked as Mizoram's chief secretary.
After retiring in 1987, he immediately entered electoral politics, serving as the finance minister of Meghalaya while also serving as an MLA for the city's Jaiaw seat in 1993 and 2003.
Just a few days prior to Meghalaya election which was scheduled to take place on 27th February, state’s former Home Minister, HDR Lyngdoh breathed his last on 20th of February, Monday.
As per the reports, Lyngdoh died after suffering a heart attack while attending an election meeting. He was rushed to the hospital, however, the doctors couldn’t save him.
As per sources, the UDP candidate was admitted in the Bethany hospital of Shillong. The veteran politician of the state was 69 years old, and was planning to contest on a UDP ticket this time. Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma grieved on the demise and tweeted regarding the same.
The CM wrote, ‘Saddened by the sudden demise of former Minister and Senior Politician of Meghalaya, Shri HDR Lyngdoh. Shri Lyngdoh serve the state in different capacities over the years and was a dedicated leader to the people. His demise is a great loss to Meghalaya. May his soul rest in peace’.
Notably, the deceased was a member and candidate of United Democratic Party (UDP), from the Sohiong assembly in East Khasi hills. Lyngdoh ruled as the Home Minister during the Congress government, headed by Dr Mukul Sangma.
