SHILLONG: Meghalaya government on Friday constituted a dedicated COVID management unit to combat the spread of the virus in the State. The unit will have dedicated professionals to be headed by the Mission Director of the National Rural Health Mission, said Cabinet minister James K Sangma on Friday. "This will be an integrated unit that will go down to the district and block level," stated Sangma, adding that the mandate includes monitoring of entry and exit points, surveillance and other COVID management measures. The Minister further added that the dedicated team with a budget of Rs 5 crore will enhance its efficiency. He also said that the present team is over burdened with Central government's schemes, a reason that prompted the government to have a fixed dedicated cell.
