Meghalaya government moves to provide Rs 3,000 for stranded persons

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday informed that it will provide one-time cash support of Rs 3,000 to individuals of the State stranded in various parts of the country.

It may be mentioned that this decision was made by the State Cabinet recently.

Such individuals include many residents of Meghalaya including workers in the service industry, students, professionals and others stranded across the country and are unable to return to the State owing to the national lockdown and the suspension of air and rail transportation.

“State governments across the country are providing support to these individuals. To further ease their discomfort, it is decided that the State Government will provide financial assistance through the Chief Minister’s Special Grant,” Chief Secretary MS Rao informed.

The Chief Secretary informed that modalities that will be adopted to provide the support are – individuals wanting to avail the cash support should fill up a short online form providing their information including bank account details.
