Government to bear transportation charges from Guwahati to Shillong of returnees only till June 10. From June 11, such passengers will have to bear these fares by themselves

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on Monday has decided to waive 50 per cent of the tuition fees of students whose families have been affected by the lockdown. Deputy Chief Minister informed that this decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
"This decision will be effective for the months of April, May and June in all government-aided, deficit pattern and deficit schools," the Deputy Chief Minister added.
On the other hand, Tynsong also informed that private schools, those run by missionaries or other individuals, will not collect any other fees except tuition fees from the students for the months of April, May and June.
"This decision will be applicable to those students whose families were affected by the COVID-19 lockdown," he pointed out.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that "the government will pay the transportation fees from Guwahati to Shillong for those returnees till June 10. But from June 11, the transportation charges for ferrying them from Guwahati will have to be borne by the individuals even though the transport will still be arranged by the Transport department," Tynsong informed.
Meanwhile, the State Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek informed that the samples sent for COVID-19 testing till Monday was 11,475; reports tested negative are 11,009; results awaited are 430; 1 died; 13 recovered and there are 22 active cases.
