Meghalaya Govt to conduct random testings in 71 COVID-19 clusters across state

Guwahati: Stepping up the fight against the COVID-19 virus, the Meghalaya government has decided to go for random testings in 71 clusters all over the state where the incidence of COVID-19 cases is the highest.

This decision was taken after the Meghalaya Government recognized as many as 71 areas across the state as "COVID-19 clusters." The number of cases across Meghalaya has also been rising rapidly in this new wave of COVID-19 infections.

"Meghalaya Government has decided to initiate public random testing in 71 Clusters identified by the Health Department covering the entire state. Our 7000 Covid-19 Management Committees will assist the Dept. in this exercise at the local level", Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in a tweet.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today informed that the test would be conducted through antigen kits. As many as 12 areas have been declared as containment areas in view of the surge in the number of COVID-19 in three districts of Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, 19 fresh COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed in Meghalaya on Thursday, increasing the number of active cases to 457. The number includes 13 BSF personnel in East Khasi Hills district and three each in West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills district.

At present, the number of BSF personnel infected by the virus is 282. The state's tally has gone up to from 515 to 534 cases, which includes 452 active cases, 78 recoveries, and four deaths. East Khasi Hills district has the highest number of active positive cases at 379.
