UDP demands that the Minister be stripped of Home portfolio

SHILLONG: A few days after the United Democratic Party (UDP) and lone KHNAM MLA Adelbert Nongrum expressed their opposition to the style of functioning of Home Minister James K Sangma, more signs of dissent have surfaced against the Minister from within the ruling coalition.

Sports and Youth Affairs and Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, who is the president of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), an ally in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition, said that on various occasions, the issues against Sangma were discussed both in the Cabinet as well as the meetings of the alliance.

Lyngdoh said that among other things, the Home Minister has not been able to handle the law-an- order situation in State.

“He does not have that sense of responsibility. We have demanded that he be stripped off the Home portfolio,” the PDF chief said.

However, Lyngdoh said that it was the prerogative of the Chief Minister to act on these complaints.

Quoting the Chief Minister, Lyngdoh said that he will act on the complaints made by them.
