Meghalaya House discusses status of teachers in government schools

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday informed the State Legislative Assembly that there are 1,225 Lower Primary, 844 Upper Primary and 386 government aided Ad-Hoc Secondary schools across the State. Replying during 'Question Hour', Rymbui also said that under the government aided ad-hoc schools, there are 2,450 Lower Primary teachers, 3,376 Upper Primary and 2,139 secondary school teachers in Meghalaya.

On the salaries of teachers working in the government-aided ad-hoc schools, the Education Minister informed the House that LP school teachers get Rs 12, 000 per month. Among the ad-hoc Upper Primary school teachers, the monthly salary a head teacher is Rs 18, 000 and that of an assistant teacher is Rs 16, 000, while the monthly salary of a teacher in an ad-hoc secondary school is Rs. 20, 000. Rymbui also informed that the last revision of the teachers'salary scales was done on September 1, 2016.
