Meghalaya: IED Bomb Recoved At NPP Office, HNLC Claims Responsibility

Shillong: On Monday, an IED bomb was recovered at the office of the National People's Party (NPP) which is located in the Lower Lachumiere area in Shillong, Meghalaya.

This incident took place as the state was preparing for the visit of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in Meghalaya. The recovery of the IED bomb has sent a wave of panic across the people of the city.

Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), which is a banned outlawed group, has claimed responsibility for the bombing attempted. This was reported on a Facebook page that is connected to the group.

The Facebook page in question is said to be run by one Sainkupar Nongtraw. It is alleged that Nongtraw is the publicity secretary of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council.

A bomb squad was immediately called to the site as soon as the IED bomb was recovered. The matter is currently under investigation.

The state authorities have ordered a ban on all movements of people and vehicles within a 100-metre-radius of the site of the incident until the area is declared safe.

In other news, Ferdinand B Lyngdoh, the son of former Meghalaya Chief Minister late E.K. Lyngdoh's son, was burnt to death inside his own car in a tragic accident.

The incident was reported near Umran Diary on the Shillong-Guwahati National Highway in the Ri-Bhoi district on Saturday.
