Shillong: In some good news for the Conrad Sangma-led Meghalaya government, the north eastern state of Meghalaya has been judged the second Best Governed State in India as per a report released by the Public Affairs Centre.
Meghalaya stood second in the small states category of the Public Affairs Index, 2020, the annual index that ranks states based on their governance performance.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has shared a post in his official Twitter handle stating "Happy to share that #Meghalaya has been ranked the 2nd Best Governed State in #India in the Small States Category based on the Public Affairs Index 2020 of @pacindia an annual ranking of the states of India on governance performance."
While discussing the annual report on Friday, the city-based not-for-profit organisation, headed by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K Kasturirangan stated that the states were ranked on governance performance based on a composite index in the context of sustainable development.
It is to be mentioned that Kerala emerged as the best governed state in the nation while Uttar Pradesh ended at the bottom of the list in the large states category of the Index.
