SHILLONG: The surge in new COVID-19 infections in Meghalaya continues with the State registering 597 new infections on Sunday. The State also recorded another 10 fatalities and 288 more recovered from the virus. With the latest figures the total deaths has now reached 1024, there are 5007 active cases and 55163 has so far recovered from the virus.
Of the 10 new fatalities, East Khasi Hills district recorded five, West Garo Hills three and South Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district recorded one each.
Of the 597 new infections, East Khasi Hills district recorded 242, West Garo Hills district 105, West Jaintia Hills district 62, Ri-Bhoi district 54, West Khasi Hills district 51, South West Khasi Hills district and North Garo Hills district 18 each, East Garo Hills district 17, East Jaintia Hills district 13, South Garo Hills district nine and South West Garo Hills district eight.
Meanwhile, of the 5,007 total active cases East Khasi Hills district is the most affected with 1796, West Garo Hills district 944, Ri-Bhoi district 598, West Jaintia Hills district 539, West Khasi Hills district 309, South West Khasi Hills district 288, North Garo Hills district 150, East Garo Hills district 109, South West Garo Hills district 93, South Garo Hills district 91 and East Jaintia Hills district 90.
