Meghalaya: Meghalaya achieved a remarkable feat by securing the position of second runners-up at the ODOP Awards 2023 ceremony hosted in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The esteemed event was organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade to showcase appreciation towards Meghalaya's steadfast dedication to achieve success with their One District One Product (ODOP) Initiative.
Dr. S. Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, inaugurated the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Utsav and National ODOP Awards ceremony to recognize the outstanding contributions of Indian states, Union Territories, districts and missions towards achieving the goal of a self-reliant India through their initiatives in ODOP.
Shri Conrad K Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, conveyed appreciation for the esteemed accolade and exclaimed that it would serve as encouragement to farmers and skilled artisans. He accredited strategic initiatives, mission mode programs, unique brand establishment through Geographic Indication tagging and robust marketing strategies in contributing towards Meghalaya's success.
On behalf of the state, Dr. Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary for the Government of Meghalaya received the award. He emphasized that their commitment is to create a self-sufficient India while highlighting Meghalaya's concentration on agri-value chains and quality assurance as well as global partnerships aimed at developing sustainable growth across various fields.
In Meghalaya, there is a concerted effort to bolster the promotion of ODOP merchandise through a multifaceted strategy that involves various components such as spreading awareness through campaigns, enforcing quality regulations and standards, enhancing infrastructural facilities, implementing targeted registration procedures while also embracing innovative branding techniques along with technology incorporation. Moreover aided by gap analysis assessments Exposure visits and training programs are being organized to build capabilities in this arena.
Meghalaya's remarkable achievement in exporting Khasi Mandarin to Dubai highlights its expertise in producing superior goods while also forging crucial ties with worldwide markets. This signifies a significant milestone for the state and showcases its ability to effectively reach out beyond domestic boundaries.
Meghalaya's success in their ODOP initiatives serves as a prime illustration of how adept planning, originality and an unwavering dedication towards authenticity can be instrumental in raising the bar for self-sufficiency and achieving long-lasting growth.
