SHILLONG: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was questioned by TMC leader Mukul Sangma on Friday on his assertion that the Special Branch SP of the Assam Police had issued the church scan letter without his knowledge.

Mukul questioned the situation of law and order in the state where the CM was unaware of such wrongdoings in light of the letter requesting information on religious conversion and the number of churches erected in Assam over the course of the previous year.

"Has any chief minister ever acknowledged a government employee's decision to act contrary to government policy?" Mukul inquired. Concerned about the attacks on Christians across the nation, Mukul stated that protecting personal freedom from being violated by any political party's policy choices or legislative initiatives is currently the most important worry.

Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, has already condemned the attack on Chhattisgarh's churches and places of worship. To ensure that those accountable for this kind of crime are brought to justice, he requested that the state government intervene right away.

According to CM, these kinds of incidents have historically targeted the Christian community, so such conduct must stop right away. CM Sangma has specifically urged the Chhattisgarh government to act on behalf of the district administration and state governments in those states to ensure that those responsible for this type of crime be prosecuted.

In response to a query regarding the letter sent by the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kamrup, who had requested information about churches established in the state in the previous year and instances of conversions in Assam, Conrad said that this is something that is really unnecessary and such documents are very unfortunate.

Additionally, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is said to be vehemently opposed to the recent letter from an SP of the Assam Police Special Branch, which asks for crucial information on religious conversion and the number of churches in the state, among other things.
