SHILLONG: 33 students from Meghalaya, stranded in war-torn Ukraine, have safely arrived in New Delhi on Friday.
This was informed by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma.
Taking to Twitter, Sangma said, "Out of 43 students, 33 have safely reached India including 4 students having arrived today; 4 more are enroute to Delhi; 1 enroute to Ukrainian borders and 5 currently in Budapest will be flown back to India soon. We are indebted to @PMOIndia, MEA & GOI, appreciate their support.
On the other hand, in the neighbouring state of Assam, around 114 students from Assam are still stranded in Ukraine, official sources said. The State Government is taking all measures to ensure their safe evacuation. So far 85 Assam students have been evacuated from Ukraine.
On Friday morning, three Indian Air Force (IAF) C17 aircraft, carrying 630 Indian nationals, landed at its Hindan airbase near Delhi.
The IAF C17 aircraft took off from the airfields in Romania and Hungary.
