Guwahati: In a recent episode, a woman working at a petrol pump in Jowai, Meghalaya, has tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus, reports said.

As per reports, the female employee tested positive during random testing conducted by the Meghalaya health department. The woman was suffering from fever and has been admitted to a corona care for treatment.

Following this, the District Magistrate on the recommendation made by the District Medical and Health Officer of the state's West Jaintia Hills District declared Dowel Petrol Pump, Ladthalaboh, as well as the residence of the woman at Kiang Nangbah Road in Iawmusiang Jowai as containment areas.

The order restricted unregulated movement and exit movement in the affected areas from 5.00 AM of 6th September 2020 to 5.00 AM of 9th September 2020 as it will require "aggressive contact tracing, quarantine, testing, and isolation as well as containment in the interest of the health of the general public against any possible spread of COVID-19."

This has come to light amid murmurs of a community transmission in the Northeast Indian state where the number of coronavirus cases is riding at a steady yet alarming rate.

The coronavirus caseload in Meghalaya crossed the 3,000-mark on Sunday as 88 more people tested positive for the disease, a senior health department official said.

With the detection of these fresh batch of cases, the state's coronavirus tally has now reached 3,005. The death toll in the state also rose to 16 after a 59-year-old man from East Khasi Hills district succumbed to the disease, Health Services director Aman War said. A man was admitted to a private hospital yesterday and diagnosed with COVID-19. He died in the afternoon. He was suffering from diabetes, a co-morbid condition.

During the day, 29 patients were cured of the disease, taking the number of recoveries to 1,556, War said, adding that Meghalaya now has 1,433 active COVID-19 cases.
