Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has taken serious cognizance of the tardy work carried out by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) in ensuring 100 per cent electrification of villages in Garo Hills district under the Surbhagya scheme. Issuing a statement on Thursday, president of MPYC Richard Mrong Marak stated that in the whole of Garo Hills, more than 1,000-plus villages were to covered. The original time of completion was December 31, 2018, but barely 30-40 per cent of the work is visible on the ground. “The whole tendering process, fixation of high qualification criteria, selection of contractors, leaving of work by M/S Onycon and delay of work gives a clear picture that the whole system of the MECL is at fault. Stating that the MPYC will hold a protest in front of the MeECL office in Tura next week, Marak said the people of Garo Hills needs an answer for this ‘blatant misuse of public money’.
