SHILLONG: The public, including school teachers and parents, have welcomed the announcement of Meghalaya Minister of Education Lakmen Rymbui to institute a probe into the poor results of students in the recently-declared SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) results by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE).
Only 50% of the students who appeared in the SSLC exams could clear their exams. Astonishingly, 10 schools have a zero percentage in the passing results. Some feel that the sudden lockdown could be a reason.
"The evaluators from different Schools are sent to Shillong and Tura for evaluation and it was at that time that time that a lockdown was announced. This might have affected the correction process because most of them might have wanted to return home," said a teacher on condition of anonymity. A couple of parents of wards studying in a prestigious school also felt that the lockdown could have played a major role in the answer scripts evaluation process.
However, sources in the Education department said that so far there is no indication of any discrepancy. But, careful examination of the results is needed, they opined.
