SHILLONG: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) will be visiting Meghalaya again to have 'peace talks' with the state government, as per reports. The leaders will be coming by this week.

Sources also revealed that the leaders will first deliver a message to the government mentioning about the range of issues that will be the center of the 'peace talks'. They will state the topics into which they wish to have the dialogue on.

Earlier this year, on August 2022, five HNLC leaders camped in Meghalaya capital Shillong to have a sorted conversation with the government. This particular development was confirmed by Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) president, Sadon K Blah. This was done by the HNLC to 'peace out' with the Meghalaya Government.

Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council is basically a militant organization hailing from Meghalaya, in northeastern India. They are firm believers in the notion that the Khasi people stays deprived of the developmental fruits of the state. HNLC demanded to transform Meghalaya as a province only for the Khasi tribe and free them from the 'Garo' people. They also intended to fight the 'outsiders'.

The Hynniewtrep National Liberal Council (HNLC) was banned because of accusation led by the government of Meghalaya and the police for indulging in activities like- killing, cattle smuggling, robbery, extortion, abduction and various other illegal activities in the Jaintia Hills.

The last team comprised its Vice Chairman, Manbhslang Jyrwa, Political Secretary, Aristerwell Thongni, Foreign Secretary, Phrangkupar Diengdoh and two personal security officers.

This year, a blast occurred in the heart of Shillong, at Police Bazar. The banned HNLC is held responsible for the low-intensity IED blast. One person from the group was even arrested for the same.

The HNLC was also charged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a major bomb blast in the year 2020.
