Meghalaya: Public Pays Tributes to U Tirot Sing on his 188th Death Anniversary

SHILLONG: The people of Meghalaya paid their tributes to the Khasi warrior and freedom fighter U Tirot Sing on his 188th death anniversary. The main event was organised at the Tirot Sing Playground in Mairang. Several dignitaries including the chief minister of the state, Conrad Sangma and several elected representatives and officials attended this event and paid their homages.

The chief minister also visited the birthplace of the freedom fighter and interacted with the members of the local community. He was born in Nongklaw in the Eastern West Khasi Hills district of the state. The local people also organised a celebration to remember the leader through cultural music, dances and even a play was staged during this event. This event was organised by the Syiem Nongkhlaw Syiemship with support from the state government of Meghalaya. A large number of people took part in this memorial event.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister highlighted the commitment of the state government towards the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the state. Calling U Tirot Sing a true patriot, he added that was a symbol of unwavering courage and resilience during the British rule. He also asked the youth of the state to learn perseverance and leadership qualities from the life of the great freedom fighter.

He also iterated the steps taken by his government towards the development of the state and documented the lives and accomplishments of the extraordinary citizens of the state including the historical figures. He also mentioned the projects of the state government towards the development of the youth of the state and the development of infrastructure across the state to give the people access to better amenities.
