SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Monday recorded the highest ever single-day recovery of COVID-19 cases significantly bringing down the active cases in the State. According to the Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War, Meghalaya recorded 14 new COVID-19 deaths, 408 new infections and 977 new recoveries.

Dr War informed that with the latest figures, the total deaths have climbed up to 578, the number of active cases is now 6,913 and the total recovered cases are 28,107. Of the 14 news deaths - East Khasi Hills recorded nine, Ri-Bhoi recorded two, South West Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills recorded one death each.

Of the 408 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 272, Ri-Bhoi (48), West Jaintia Hills (31), West Garo Hills (23), East Jaintia Hills (13), North Garo Hills (9), West Khasi Hills (4), South West Garo Hills (3), East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills two each, and South West Khasi Hills recorded one case.

The district-wise break-up of the active cases are - East Khasi Hills (3,183), Ri-Bhoi (1,010), West Garo Hills (639), West Jaintia Hills (563), South West Garo Hills (397), South West Khasi Hills (290), East Jaintia Hills (231), West Khasi Hills (171), North Garo Hills (168), East Garo Hills (140) and South Garo Hills (121).

Of the 578 deaths, East Khasi Hills recorded 469, West Jaintia Hills (38), West Garo Hills (26), Ri-Bhoi (14), East Jaintia Hills (8), South West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills recorded five deaths each, South Garo Hills (4), East Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills two each.
